How do you teach darija to children at home?

Start with the words the little ones touch and see: animals, food, the body, colours. In darija, djaj (دجاج) is the chicken, kelb (كلب) the dog, mech (مش) the cat, 7awli (حولي) the sheep. One word a day, said while playing, sticks better than a lesson. The app's Family mode gathers these topics, and every word has its voice so the child hears it said right.

Why start with animals

They are concrete, short words you can point at: at the market, in a book, at Eid with the 7awli. A child repeats them without effort because they already know what you mean. The app's list goes from the most familiar to the widest: djaj, kelb, mech, 7awli, 7ayawan (an animal).

The other topics for little ones

Food, because we name it three times a day: atay (tea), 7lib (milk), couscous. The body, for bath time and small hurts. Colours, for games. Family mode groups these topics with the Arabic script on every card, so the child sees the letters from the start.

A simple method for home

One word a day, always in a real situation: the cat walks by, you say mech, and you tap the disc to hear it. The child repeats, and “Say it” answers Good, Almost or Try again, with no grade and no score. Let them keep their favourite words with the star, and replay the list at the weekend.

What the app is, and what it is not

Family mode is a vocabulary topic to share with your children, not a product made for children. The app is not in the App Store's Kids category, it collects nothing more in this mode, and the parent holds the phone. The microphone only turns on when you press the button.
